Canada is a strong and free country with economic growth, employment opportunities, lifestyle,
prosperity and many more. Because of these facts, many people dream of becoming a Canadian
citizen. To fulfill your dream of becoming a citizen or to retain citizenship, you must clear the Canadian Citizenship Test.
Canadian Citizenship Test is a written test conducted by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
Applicants aged between 18 and 54 must meet the eligibility criteria to appear for the test. The test is
conducted to assess the individual’s knowledge of Canada and their language abilities.
The Canadian Citizenship Test contains 20 multiple choice questions drawn from a pool of around
200 questions. The duration for the test is 30 minutes. The test is available in the official languages
of Canada- both French and English. In order to qualify applicants must correctly answer at least 15
questions in the given period of time. Besides, they must be able to understand and communicate
simple information to CIC staff in either French or English.
The questions are asked from a 63-page official guide called "Discover Canada”. It contains the
necessary information about Canada that includes Rights and responsibilities of a Canadian citizen,
Canadian History, Culture, Law, Politics and Canadian Values.
Result of the Test
If you pass the test, you will be asked to attend a citizenship ceremony to make an oath and then you
receive a certificate of citizenship.
If you fail the test, you will have an interview with a citizenship judge for 15-30 minutes. The judge will
assess your knowledge and language abilities for citizenship.
